Mythical Monster Map Review & Giveaway

mythical monster map review

We were recently sent a glow in the dark Mythical Monster Map from maps international. Maps International are leading online wall map retailers supplying an extensive range of products to the world. They not only have a glow in the dark map but also a large laminated wall map and a colour in map also.

The map itself shows forty five fascinating mythical creatures from around the world. The map shows a brief description of the monster along with the country of origin around the edge of the map. From the Makara’s in Thailand to Scandinavian Trolls to the Banshees of Ireland. This map takes you around the world with countries local folklore.

The Map themselves are beautiful. I wasn’t sure what to expect before we received the map. But they were printed on high quality paper and all the monsters were beautifully hand drawn.

I love Mythical creatures I always have. It’s not something I had really introduced to my children properly. However with more and more movies, books and television programmes surrounding Mythical creatures they had come across Mythical monsters on their own.

With the likes of Harry Potter, Lord of the rings, The Chronicles of Narnia and Pan’s Labyrinth Mythical creatures make there way into our children’s imagination.

Did you know?

A Banshee is a female spirit seen as an omen of death. It wails at someone in the community who is about to die.

We unrolled the map and set it on the table. The map was printed on thick paper. Each monster had a glow in the dark edge which gave it a slight texture. The glow in the dark edge did detract from the detail of the monster illustration slightly. However it did not lessen LM’s interest.

He was excited about learning about new monsters and asked what each monster was called, even the cat joined in.

He couldn’t wait to get it on his bedroom wall and wait for nightfall to see if it really did glow in the dark. It did. He was so excited. He spent the afternoon in his bedroom talking to the monsters and creating little stories with them.

We really enjoyed looking at this map and it gave us some time to sit down together and discuss about monsters and learn a little more.

LM is almost 5 however this map would make a great addition to any child/adults wall.

Pic n mix toy review & giveaway

picn mix review

I am super excited about this post guys. This is our first review over here at Happygomummy.

We received a new game to review. Not only did we have a new game to play with we also received an extra item to use for a giveaway to one lucky reader! You can find out more about the giveaway at the bottom of this post.

We were sent ‘our house’ smart stickers by pic’n mix. They are a Russian – Israel company that sell educational and developmental toys. Originally starting in Russian market, they have made their way into the UK market via Amazon. You can also find them on facebook here

The kids were excited to begin trying out and playing with them.

There are various ways of playing with the smart stickers, it does come with an instruction manual to give you an idea of ways to lay. But there is so many other ways these could be used.

I sat on the floor with LM and BG1 came and joined in too. We set the story boards up on the floor and spread out the smart stickers.

Meet Masha  and Artyom. We are visiting their home. In the instructions you are given little clues and riddles for each room. The child has to work out the riddle, find the item and place it in the correct place of the story board.

LM was great at working out the riddles, we took in turns working them out. But you could make it a race to see who can guess the most. BG1 ended up taking the instructions from me and read out the riddles herself.

We went through each room adding the stickers as we went. As we continued to play the game the kids were able to identify each object, and find there place on the board. This game gives you a great opportunity to add to the game your own twists and is a great way to get communicating with your child. LM when asked to find the bathroom sink, continued to tell me how we have two bathroom sinks in our house. That he brushes his teeth and washes his hands at the sink.

As well as the four scenes there is also two more boards. One to place all of the toys and the second for all of the electronics. The kids found the toys board fun, and raced to find all of the toys. The electronic board made them think a lot more. They analysed the objects to work out if it was electronic. I guided them with questions like does it have a plug? Or does it have an on switch? Do we have this in our house? This helped them to complete the task.

The boards themselves are bright, bold and colourful. They are made of a thin but durable plastic. They come in a small plastic box with a handle, therefore making this a great travel toy. It would make a great toy to take in the car for long journeys. Or if you are like me and put toys in your handbag for trips to restaurants and things, this will surely fit in many mums bags. You know the modern Mary Poppins style bags.

The stickers are also made from the same durable plastic and use Velcro to stick to the boards making them easy to place and remove.

In the time that we have had these stickers the kids have enjoyed playing with them at the table making their own rules and stories.

They imagined the boy and girl were themselves and role played moving house. They had to pack up the furniture and un pack again putting everything in its place.

Both children agreed that they enjoyed playing with the toys. LM enjoyed the bathroom board because it was the most fun and the electronic board because we have many items in our house too. BG1 enjoyed placing the items on the bedroom board the most because it had lots of toys like her bedroom.

The ‘our house’ smart stickers from pic n mix are aimed at children ages between 3 and 6. The game is aimed to develop a child’s visual perception, motor skills, memory, social skills, creativity and imagination.

We enjoyed this game as it is simple to understand and the children can play with it independently as well as with a parent or other children. It is a great way to create stories and learn more about the objects around the house.
