A poet I am not 2

a poet i am not

OH no! she’s back with another poem!

We are back again this week with another attempt at poetry. If you didn’t catch last weeks poem in ‘I am not a poet’ about boobs go check it out. I received some lovely feedback and comments on this post. My favourite comment was from Maddy over at The speed bump

You say you aren’t a poet,
But your poem was one of the best,
I enjoy a good acrostic,
Especially about a breast.

I am not a poet either,
Though I do quite like to rhyme,
But rhyming in blog comments?
This is my very first time.

Thanks for sharing your poem,
You really went the extra mile,
Next time I see a pair of boobs,
I’ll think of that poem and smile!

? seriously love it. We need more boob poems in the world. #coolmumclub

Thank you Maddy for making me smile with your lovely comment.

I was truly amazed at everybody’s comments and positivity. I have also had a couple of requests for the 1000 word essay on Boobs I mentioned. Watch this space, it may just happen!

My week in a nutshell

my week in a nutshell

Monday

Today my cousin came round after the morning school run for a brew. He didn’t leave until twelve, we talked for ages. It was so blooming hot outside I really didn’t want to leave the house. As soon as the kids got home it was cool showers, shorts and tee-shirts on.

The kids brought home their school reports, they were excellent. BG1 has made great progress in her maths, she struggles so much with it. LM has done so well his first year on Nursery and is more than ready for school.

Today I posted My week in a nutshell Continue reading

In the garden – Through the eyes of kids #3

in the garden

The kids were out in the garden this week playing. The perfect opportunity to take some pics. Out they totted with the camera in hand, I didn’t see them for a full hour. Apart from when they tried to take pictures through the French doors.

They were so proud when they planted their flowers.

Photography Journey – My Sunday Photo

My Sunday photo

I’m on a photography journey.

In my attempt to keep the hubby happy whilst I am on my blogging journey, I am trying to gain some well needed photography skills, a photography journey if you will.

Hubby doesn’t want our children’s full faces seen on the blog. I have slipped up a few times however, I am trying. It takes practise to get it just right. So I am concentrating on my photography skills (or lack of) and starting my photography journey.

On our usual Sunday walk we gave it a go to see how the out come would be. The kid’s happily posed stretched out on the bench for me. The Hubby, who has little patience and likes to do everything in a hurry, tried to hurry us along. But the kids were stars, as I tried to pose them looking away from me.

They love the benches along the walk so any chance they got to sit on one they would take it. This weeks Sunday photo is one of my favourite photos take from that day. Not too bad if I say so myself.

My aim is to keep on practicing these kind of side shots, and back of head shots.

From the eyes of kids #2

eyes of kids

Hey we are back with the second instalment of from the eyes of kids. That means just one thing, the kids didn’t get bored of taking photos. Which with my kids, everything is a five minute wonder and then its forgotten about. We are still getting to grips with taking the camera everywhere with us. This includes stopping in the middle of our journey to take the photo’s. These photos are just a handful of the snaps taken by the kids this week.

a miss snap

I’m not sure what went on here, I think LM was trying to take a selfie. We end up with a lot of miss snaps, most of them being unusual angled selfies.

DSCF6338

I told LM to keep his fingers out of the way from the lens. As most children do, they get there finger in the way of the lens, this happens in at least half of the snaps taken.

These were taken on our Sunday walk this week. We usually walk the same route a few times every week.

We ended up with a lot of the floor, daddy’s jeans and dead flowers. This was the only snap not of a dead flower.

We will be back again with some more kids eye snaps next week. I am hoping to get the kids a little more involved and creative over next weekend.

Rain Rain Go Away

nursery ryhmes new too

It’s  raining once again in Sunny old Devon, so here are some fitting nursery rhymes all about the rain to sing along with your baby or child.

Rain, rain go away!

Rain, rain go away,
Come again another day.
Little Johnny wants to play;
Rain, rain, go to Spain,
Never show your face again!

The lyrics to “Rain rain go away” is said to date back to the constant rivalry between Spain and England, in the launch of the Spanish Armada in 1588 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603).

The lyrics have moved on since then and have changed slightly. In this house we sing;

Rain,rain go away
Come again another day.
Little baby wants to play
Rain, rain go away!

Replacing little baby with each child’s name.

It’s raining it’s pouring

It’s raining; it’s pouring.
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed and bumped his head,
And he couldn’t get up in the morning.

The verse is suggested to be about a head injury and the inability to resume normal activity. If you ask me I think he took one look at the rain and said ‘nope not today’ pulling the duvet over his head and going back to sleep.

Doctor foster

Doctor Foster went to Gloucester,
In a shower of rain;
He stepped in a puddle,
Right up to his middle,
And never went there again.

Boyd Smith (1920) suggested that the Nursery Rhyme was possibly based on a story of King Edward I,  falling from his horse into a puddle while in Gloucester and refusing to return there again.

Are they sure he wasn’t travelling to Devon?

Happy first day of Summer everybody!

My week in a nutshell #1

my week in a nutshell

Throughout this week I found myself wanting to share every tiny detail with my blog. I have become a little obsessed, addicted even, with blogging. I keep thinking to myself ‘What shall I blog about next?, ‘What picture shall I capture next?’ or ‘What’s happening in the next few days that I can blog about?’ Blogging is never far from my mind.

I have found myself wanting to blog about everything. I would go to write a blog post thinking ‘Yes I am going to blog about that’, only to realise I wouldn’t even hit 200 words, and it wouldn’t make much of a ‘good’ read.

This got me thinking, how can I incorporate all of these little snippets of my life or my thoughts, or questions that I have with the small amount of people that read my blog.

This has led me to create this post. My week in a nutshell is going to be a weekly post (I say weekly, we will see how many times I actually remember to write it). I will write a post titled ‘My week in a nutshell’ every week keeping track of all those little things. My little memories that aren’t big enough to stand alone in it’s own post.

This may include a few pictures I have not been able to upload before, things I have eaten but don’t have a recipe for, things the kids may have said or done, and many other subjects.

These posts will ideally be posted on a Monday, if it changes I will let you know.

Monday

On Monday there was not much going on during the day, in fact not much went on all week (this could make for a boring post). I did manage to take a time out for myself and have a few hours at my sister in laws for a girlie gossip while the men watched football at my house. I was only going to be an hour and ended up being two and half. You know women and gossip.

On Monday I posted: My big girl’s birth story and hand painting My big girl’s birth story

Tuesday

On Tuesday LM stayed home from Nursery because he was unwell, this meant we were stuck indoors for the day, turns out we would be stuck indoors for a few more days after that too.

Asda arrived Tuesday also and I quickly realised I had order cauliflower instead of onion’s. You can read the bazaar post here.

I made chicken fajitas for tea, they were probably the best I had made, the chicken chunks were huge! BG1 usually stays at Nannies for tea so more for me and the Hubby.

On Tuesday I posted: Cauliflower is the new onions and Bloomin laptop

Wednesday

On Wednesday, my lovely dad bought round some shopping for us for tea. He knows my favourite is steak so it was no surprise he had brought in two steaks for me and hubby, Diane sauce, Dauphinoise potatoes and cheddar and rice stuffed peppers. Yum! We had already had tea planned for Wednesday but these would go down well on Thursday. We did however, end up using the stuffed peppers on Wednesday to accompany our Chicken wrapped in bacon, salad and chilli tear’n’share bread.

Wednesday was also a great day for me on twitter. I hit the 100 twitter follower mark. I was so pleased to reach this very small target, I had never used Twitter in my life and had only been signed up for about a week. My Facebook page is feeling neglected and jealous of my new found love of Twitter.

On Wednesday I posted: Building Dens and poorly little man.

On Thursday I wondered if people got just as frustrated as I do when I just need one more peg and can’t find one! (Yes, I was hanging out the washing at the time).

BG2 had a screaming cos it’s fun day

On Thursday I posted: is it too early for the ‘C’ word  and Let’s all scream and shout for the fun of it.

Friday

We spent another day indoors as LM was still unwell. I managed to get out for half hour when hubby got home from work to Asda. Spent a small fortune in the George sale – I only went up for pizza!

Friday nights are pizza and movie night. Tonight we watched Step dogs while hubby started the patio.

On Friday I posted: please hubby the To Do list

Saturday

LM was finally better today!

I made a chocolate slab ready for Father’s day on Sunday. I was going to make it Friday night but I forgot, so Saturday morning it was. I also had all seven kids again. Things were a lot calmer. I was more prepared this time, their lunch was ready on the table, egg sandwiches were made for the men, the house was cleaned the chocolate slab made. I was able to sit down and play with the kids this time.

It was still very loud and crazy at times, but the kids enjoyed colouring, playing Simon says and we got the story dice out too

If you haven’t read what happened last week when I had all seven kids click here to find out.

On Saturday I posted: Being a nurse to three children

Sunday

On Sunday it was Father’s Day. I got up early to wrap the present’s before the hubby woke (I had forgotten the night before). The kids came down stair shortly after to write the cards. We made daddy a cup of coffee and gave him his presents in bed, he was spoilt this year.

My baby sister had the great idea of going to the dinosaur park for father’ day. It was great but the weather wasn’t. It rained the entire day. We all enjoyed the dinosaur park, by the time we arrived home we were all very tired from a long day of travelling and playing so we ordered a takeaway for tea.

On Sunday I posted: Happy Father’s day and My Sunday photo

Poorly Little Man

poorly DSCF6209

Poorly, Sofa Hugging Disney Watcher.

The past two days Little Man has time off Nursery. He has been poorly, complaining of a headache and not been his normal self.

As you all know, being a mum comes with many different rolls to play. It’s time to play the comforter, Nurse, and snuggly mum again.

I hate seeing the children poorly; BG1 doesn’t seem to get poorly very often or seems to get the tail end of an illness. However, Little Man seems to have caught all the bugs since starting Nursery in September.

He has had a slight temperature the last couple of days accompanied by a headache. At first, I was not sure if he was truly ill however, I gave him some Calpol and kept him home from school.

I took BG1 to school while Nanny looked after the other two. When I arrived back home, LM had perked up and I was tempted to take him back to Nursery. This was short lived and he soon flaked on the sofa with his duvet watching Disney films (A must, for poorly days).

LM doesn’t sleep during the day unless he is unwell, this is when I know he is truly ill. So it wasn’t surprising when he dozed off on the sofa and later moved to the floor.

He asked to go to bed early without tea. He soon came down though. He had been sick, presumably from the Calpol I had given him on an empty stomach (he didn’t eat lunch). So he ate some toast and once again perked up enough to play archery in the living room for half hour with Daddy and BG1.

Later that evening just before midnight I took him toilet as I do every night, that’s when the fun started. Being half-asleep, he wasn’t sure what was going on. I had disturbed him, and he still felt poorly, that’s when the tears started.

I would settle him however, half an hour later he would start crying again. This went on until half past three this morning. Fun right?

He woke this morning still quite warm and with a slight headache. Not remembering waking throughout the night he was not happy that daddy had closed his door and put up the baby gate. Sorry mate it was mummy that closed the door and put up the gate so I could hear you getting out of bed crying. He doesn’t remember. I’m still not sure if he was crying because he is ill or whether he was having night terrors which he gets from time to time.

Today is going to be another day on the sofa watching movies (preferably Disney).

What do you guys do when the kids are ill? Are you sofa hugging, Disney watchers too?
