A new day

a new day

Its a new day, a new school year and who knows what today will bring. i have been away for quite some time from my blog and i have really  missed it. i got really disheartened when my blog posts up and left me and i just couldn’t find motivation to retrieve them. However the last few day i have retrieved about 40 of my posts. I know i won’t be able to retrieve all of them as not all of them have been cached on google which is a shame because there are some of my favourites that haven’t been cached like my fathers day 2016 post. But i guess this gives me a bit of a fresh start to get creative again.

So now the kids are back to school and i have a new job that frees up a bit of time i am aiming for 2 new posts a week.

Get over losing my blog was hard, all that time and effort feels wasted but i am slowly building a new one and gaining my blogging enjoyment again.

So what have we been up to since i have been away?

Well BG2 is turning 2 in a few weeks and i can’t believe how fast she is growing. Her speech astounds me every day. She picks words up so easily. She went to my husband just yesterday “Daddy you ha boobies” well i was gone. She thinks the word boobies is hilarious.

LM has lost his first tooth which he was super excited about. Especially when the tooth fairy arrived and left him some shiny coins for the morning.

BG1 still hasn’t stopped talking and has also started collecting books so she can build a library in her bedroom.

It was also my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I turned the lovely age of 29. As always i was spoilt with a beautiful flamingo necklace and a geode crystal.

This week i will be uploading my September bucket list and an August round up before it gets too late so look out for those posts!

Make passive income with Gallerist App

Gallerist App

In 2017 there seem to be more and more ways to earn money online. Blogging is just one way people can benefit from earning money on the world wide web, although it takes time and determination there are many sources to be found. Recently I have been looking at ways to make passive income to boost our household funds. Although many of the ways are not big earners having the octopus approach soon adds up.

One way of making passive income which can be really fun to do is to sell your photographs. Most of you know that I don’t take pictures of my kids’ faces on this blog so I try and take as many different pictures as possible, along my way learning more about my DSLR that I have had for eight years and still don’t know how to use properly. Selling photographs is something I had seriously looked into.

gallerist

I love taking photos and messing around in Photoshop. So really I would be doing something that I already do and love, and then simply uploading it to the Gallerist App.
Using the Gallerist app was as simple as downloading it onto your IOS or android, you can create an account and start uploading your photos to your page. It doesn’t stop there, you can also search through other sellers and buy their work too.

You can choose a category that you are interested in and create different folders for different subjects. For example, I take many photographs of flowers and also abstract angles; I can therefore have a separate file for each subject matter.

gallerist

Your images are them open to many varieties of people, from private buyers who enjoy your work to businesses wanting to use your photographs for commercial purposes.

Gallerist App tries to be different from other photograph marketplace, that’s why they have a community feature. You are able to like others photos and contact your favourite sellers and build a relationship with them, the same way you would in any business.

I have signed up for a seller account and am spending the summer gaining photographs ready to upload to GalleristApp.

This post is in collaboration with Gallerist App

My blog has disappeared

my blog has disappeared

It happened. Thee are two things all bloggers dread that will happen to them. 1. They get hacked and 2. There blog disappears.

Well my blog disappeared. My own stupid fault. I turned off my automatic renew on my web hosting, but kept it renewed on my domain. I had all intension of shopping around for a new host and never got round to it. So when my blog hosting was up to renew It went un noticed until my blog was completely offline. Grrrrr. I could seriously kick my self. I mad the worst mistake ever. I did not back up my work in like forever.

I am so stupid and so annoyed at myself that I didn’t back up my files. it would have saved so much hassle. I contacted my web hosting and they were unable to restore my old blog files double poo!

So I have been trawling through google cached pages of my site to recover as much of my blog as possible. it is a long and boring process. It works but it takes forever, so I haven’t written a post in a few weeks and I expect it will be another week or two before I write another one. It really has knocked my motivation. I love summer and have so many posts I want to write all over the summer holidays but now I just ain’t feeling it.

I am going to spend a couple of nights trying to retrieve all 200 posts and all the comments and get some motivation back.

I had over 2000 comments on this blog and the only way I can think of getting them back is by adding them to the bottom of the blog post, I cant think of any other way to add them. That annoys me even more.

Huge warning fellow bloggers BACK YOUR FILES!!!!!!

Unpredictable week

I have been pretty in active online for the past couple weeks. Sometimes life just throws you a curve ball and you end up of course. I hadn’t been feeling great – I felt like I had swallowed razor blades. I just didn’t have the motivation to get writing.

To top the end of that week the hubby ended up having an operation and was on bed rest for the week. Which meant everything was left to me. I am so glad he is feeling better and has gone back to work today. But now it is also my week back to work and that really depresses me.

In fact I have lost motivation for everything. The weather is horrible, my writing has taken a back seat. Everything just seems un interesting to me.

This week I am hoping to get written and published an update on BG2 development. It’s LM’s parents meeting tomorrow and I would also like to do an update on him, and then by the end of the week get an up to date post on BG1 too.

Let’s see if I can get motivated this week.

Birthday gift ideas for an 8 year old

*This post contains affiliate links

I can not believe it is my big girls birthday on Friday. Where have these 8 years gone. It seems like only yesterday since she was born. She is growing and changing everyday and is well on her way to becoming a beautiful, caring and smart young lady.

Her thoughts and mind are completely her own. And even though there are days I don’t quite understand her logic she still entrances me with her ideas and mad ways.

Each year I find it more of a struggle about what to get her for her birthday gift. It seems that children these days – or maybe it’s just mine – have everything. This year I asked BG1 what would she like for her birthday. Her response – Surprise me! SURPRISE ME!

This year I really had to think hard about what to buy an 8 year old for her birthday. When it was LMs birthday in December, that was easy. I had no problem buying toys for him. However BG1 is that much older now, and although she loves toys she has grown out of many things she used to play with. That and the fact I think she could open her own toy store already.

The birthday gift

I thought long and hard and this is what we have bought our 8 year old this year for her birthday.

The World of David Walliams: Bumper-tastic CD Story Collection £17.99

Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Colouring-Book Adventure (Colouring Books) £4.99

The Midnight Gang £5.00

Ravensburger Disney Eye Found It £14.99

Write Your Own Storybook £6.99

Creative Writing Book £3.99

Sing Your Heart Out 2016 £7.98

Don’t Say It £8.99

February 2017 bucket list

february 2017 bucket list

It’s February people!!!! The month were love is in the air. At first I was gong to say wow January seemed to be like a very long month, but then I realised that I did nothing in January. Apart from work, sleep and eat. No wonder it dragged on.

How did we get on with…….

January 2017 bucket list

  • Buy the kids bunk bed & move LM & BG1 into the same room. I am a little in shock, we actually completed this one. We bought a lovely bunk bed and now BG1 & LM are sharing a room. Look out for a post on the bunk beds soon.
  • Move BG2 out of our bedroom and into a room of her own (not sure this will happen just yet I am quite attached to having her in our room.) This did not happen. The bunk beds took a while to arrive and we have yet to sort through the smaller bedroom for her to move in to. Not that I am complaining.
  • Lose 6lb’s. I haven’t weighed myself so I don’t know if this has happened. In all honesty I don’t feel like I have lost 6lb however I am eating a little bit healthier and have started Jillian Michaels kick boxing dvd. Which I swear she is trying to kill me every time I put it on!
  • Make a list of jobs that need completing around the house. oooo I am excited, this is another one I have done and it is a long list. Look out for an up to date To Do list soon.
  • Buy BG1’s Birthday Presents. January we are on a roll. All set and ready for BG1’s B’Day beginning of March.
  • That reminds me buy the mother in law a birthday present – she turns 50 in February. Ordered and on it’s way, good job too cos her b’day is this week.
  • Eat healthier. I have been eating a little bit healthier. I haven’t skipped breakfast and lunch and have eaten more fruit and veg but I think I could do better.
  • Get reading with the kids. BG1 has been reading her many books she got for Christmas, including starting the Harry Potter series. LM and I have been setting up our little routine before bed with a short book. We are currently making our way through his collection of the Large family he go for Christmas.

What’s on our….

February 2017 Bucket List

  • Home date night for valentines day.
  • Go Cinema to watch 50 shades!!!
  • Put down wood flooring in the hallway
  • Clean out small bedroom for BG2 to move into.
  • Try something new (anything!)

Let’s not forget the year bucket list!

2017 bucket list

I have been reading Donna’s blog What the red head for quite sometime now and I love the way she does her bucket lists. Making a list of things her and her family would like to do and achieve for that year. It means no time scale on any such thing and then once you have completed an item you cross it of the list. So I have done a years bucket list in addition to my regular bucket list.

  • a night away with the hubby
  • girlie night at the cinema
  • date night We had a date night  this month and went to a Chinese restaurant. It was lovely. I love using chopsticks. The hubby can’t use them so I also got to make fun of him.
  • finish first draft of book
  • refurbish the bathroom
  • go ice skating
  • see a comedian
  • BG2 Christening
  • have a cocktail night
  • save enough money to move house
  • go on a family weekend away
  • take a trip to Boscastle
  • Finish the garden
  • Lose 2st
  • Organise the downstairs cupboard
  • Watch a theatre show
  • visit the zoo
  • see fireworks
  • try upcycling
  • sew something
  • read a new book every month

January bucket list 2017

January 2017 bucket list

Its now 2017 and this year is going to be better than ever. I don’t know why but I just believe it will be. So December has been and gone in a blur. The house continues to fall apart, with now a toilet out of use. I really should remember to call the plumber. How did we get on with our December bucket list.

December 2016 bucket list round up

  • Make mince pie muffins. Last year I made around 100 muffins for family. I don’t need that many this year but I do have seven jars of mincemeat to use up. I now have six jars of mince meat left! I made one batch of mince pie muffins which were lovely. I only ate one as I made them for a friend but didn’t find the time o make anymore batches.
  • Wrap the Christmas presents before Christmas Eve. Each year the hubby and I would sit down on Christmas Eve wrapping the kids presents. Last year we were up until half past one wrapping! Not this year, we have an extra child to wrap for this year, I will be wrapping before Christmas Eve. I thought wrapping would never end. I managed to wrap most of the presents before Christmas eve. However I went seriously overboard on gifts this year so the playmobil we bought as a joint present went unwrapped and piled in a tower instead.
  • Bake Christmas biscuits & Mince pies with the kids. Didn’t happen, bought the ingredients but we never got round to baking.
  • Make Paper chains and Paper Christmas hats with the kids. Crafting didn’t go to plan either.
  • Go Walking around the town looking at Christmas lights. Nope!
  • Deliver Christmas gifts. We did this and it took so much longer than I thought it would. All day in fact.
  • Read Christmas stories to the kids. We had new Christmas books to re
  • Watch Christmas movies. This was easy, in fact we watched a Christmas movie everyday.
  • Have fun with the Scout Elves that stay at our house each year. (Yes we do Elf on the shelf) The elves go up to their mischief and left little gifts too.
  • Celebrate the Hubby’s 30th Birthday. Me and the hubby we out for a meal with his sister and her husband. We then all came back to ours for a few drinks and a game of pointless! I lost but was a good night.
  • Put the Christmas decorations up after LM’s Birthday. The decorations did indeed go up after his birthday. Even though we didn’t put up as many as we usually do.

January’s bucket list is going to be simple because let’s face it December is always so busy you really do need a month to get over it.

January 2017 bucket list

  • Buy the kids bunk bed & move LM & BG1 into the same room
  • Move BG2 out of our bedroom and into a room of her own (not sure this will happen just yet I am quite attached to having her in our room.)

happy new year 2017

happy new year 2017

I am a little late to the party HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

It’s January 2017! Seriously January 2017 where did Christmas go? I haven’t written a blog post in like 2 weeks. Truthfully I just havent felt like it, which is a real shame because I really shut off for these two weeks and didn’t get a single picture of the christmas holidays to share with you. I didn’t take any pictures of the kids in their christmas jumpers at the panto, or pictures of them decorating the tree. I didn’t take pictures of the kids on christmas morning opening their presents or playing with their new toys. Which actually is really bazaar for me because I love christmas. This year though it just didn’t feel like christmas to me. We didn’t put up all our decorations, I didn’t take the kids to any christmas parties or light switch ons, it all felt pretty naf.

Maybe it was because I had work over christmas. Christmas eve and boxing day I worked as well as the rest of that week, I was so used to having the entire holiday with the kids that I had forgotten how much it sucks to work over christmas.

So what is this year going to bring for us. Well hopefully it will be better than 2016. 2016 was all in all a sucky year, so I am hoping this one will be better.

I am determined to shift the weight I have put on since BG2 was born. I really have been feeling sluggish and fat lately so a whole new eating habit needs to be set in place.

If I can stomach it I will be popping my progress here. Probably not every week but at least once a month keeping record of new recipes I have tried, weight I have lost and any new clothes in smaller sizes I have bought.

5 minute fun

5 minute fun

Just five minutes. That’s all you need sometimes. Five minute to dish up tea. Five minutes to hoover. Five minutes to run a bath. Just five minutes is all, Just five minutes. That’s all you need sometimes. five minutes is all us parents ask for.

Let’s face it, kids of a certain age get bored if it takes longer than five minutes, so when we were asked to review the 5 minute fun website we decided to give it a go. Five minutes is not a lot of time. It’s long enough to keep a child entertained without getting bored while you dish up that hot stew that has been cooking all day long.

You can sign up for daily activities to be emailed to you for you and your child to do everyday.
The site has many games and activities to do such as activities to get you moving including a sporty reward chart. Crafty activities to do such as funny folded paper drawings, paper spinners and creative colouring with helpful short videos for your child to watch how to get creating.

The site doesn’t stop there they also have activities to help with learning math, reading and writing.

Pretend you have a pet dinosaur. Is it big? Can it fly? What’s its name?

LM loves dinosaurs so this was a great place to start for him. He had a pet T-Rex that was red and could breath fire. BG1 wanted to join in too and her dinosaur was also a T-Rex named Louis. This led to the pair of them on the floor playing with their pet dinosaurs while I dished up dinner before the hubby returned home from work.

After tea we chose another simple activity. You’re both super heroes. Stand with your hands on your hips, run in slow motion, then pretend to fly! Make up a superhero name and choose a super power.

My two love to pretend to be super heroes, especially on the way to school when their coats make great capes. They flew around the living room like real super heroes saving their stuffed animals.

LM had a look through the website and made a list of all the activities he wanted to try when he is bored or doesn’t have a lot of time.

  • Make funny monsters
  • Make lolly stick people
  • Make a rocket
  • Hatch from an egg
  • Build a tower from cardboard boxes.

Since he wrote this list we have been collecting some cardboard boxes to make building blocks from. He also pretended to be a chick and hatch from an egg.

The website has many different activities for your child to do not just on their own but with a parent also. The activities are aimed at children aged 2-5 however BG1 is 7 and still enjoyed joining in with the activities with LM. The site was easy to navigate with many crafty videos and activities for your child. The various charts that can be printed to encourage your child to get moving and eat healthy are a lovely addition to the site.

Disclosure: I was sent a cbeebies magazine in return for my honest opinion. All words and opinions are my own.

Exmoor zoo – Family trip

exmoor zoo - family trip

A couple weekends ago we headed to Exmoor Zoo for the day. I have said before when we spent the day at Paignton zoo how much I love going to the zoo. Exmoor Zoo is a little closer to home and a much smaller zoo than Paignton.

It doesn’t have Elephants, Giraffes, Gorillas, Zebras, Tigers, Lions or Rhino’s. None of the big animals you come to expect from the larger zoos. Its a smaller zoo but a fascinating one.

It had been around four years since we last visited the zoo and much has changed. Exmoor zoo is constantly being updated and improved. I was greatly impressed with the work that had been done to new enclosures since I had last visited.

Exmoor zoo might be small but it houses a huge range of animals. Sometimes smaller zoos are better than the bigger ones. In bigger zoos you can get lost, miss animals and get trampled on by other guests. Smaller zoos are quieter, and follow an easier route so you don’t miss animals.

Housing Monkeys, Meerkats, Pumas, singing dogs and the famous Exmoor Beast there are plenty of beautiful and unusual animals to take a look at.

The Meerkats were on the look out and were gorgeous to look at. I took charge of the camera on this trip as the husband took the pictures at Paignton Zoo.

exmoor zoo meerkat

We stopped at the playground for the kids to burn me energy. BG2 loved her ride on the swings. It was very cold on our trip but it didn’t rain which made the day more enjoyable. We don’t mind the cold.

The animals were so active on our visit. We spent more time watching the animals at our visit to Exmoor Zoo than we did at Paignton Zoo as we were able to watch the animals easier and they were fascinating to watch.

The wild dogs were one of the first larger enclosures we seen. They were just as intrigued by us as we were by them.

The monkeys looked very grumpy in their trees. This is what the Hubby looks like when I ask him to do housework!!

Exmoor Zoo

BG1 loved her time spent at the zoo, her favourite animal is the Exmoor beast.

The Pumas were the most active of the day, I could have spent hours watching them.

The wolves didn’t keep still either, it took me quite a few shots to get a descent picture, they were keeping a close eye on the wild dogs that they had clear view of from their enclosure.

LM couldn’t wait to touch a snake, BG1 chickened out at the last minute.

At the end of the day we were exhausted from our amazing trip at Exmoor zoo and won’t be leaving it so long until our next visit.
