May 2017 Bucket List

May 2017

Whoa whoa whoa! Hold the phone, and put down the biscuits I have just realised. Not only did I not do an April bucket list which would have contained Easter and chocolate goodness but I have yet to post a May one too. This is unacceptable and should be rectified immediately.

Quick round up of April.

If I did have an April to do list this is what it would have looked like.

  • Decorate for Easter. – We didn’t get as festive as I would have liked. I worked all Easter weekend and it really didn’t feel like Easter at all. The only decorating we had was an Easter plaque and a bunny bunting.
  • Have an Easter egg hunt – The kids loved their Easter egg hunt and I enjoy watching their little faces trying to find all the eggs.
  • Make Easter Bonnets. – We didn’t get round to making Easter bonnets this time round as I was working a lot during the holiday. But the kids didn’t mind.
  • Tidy the garden- We did tidy the garden and the lawn is soon to be laid. It will be ready in time for the summer holidays.

So here we go a tad late but better late than never

May 2017 bucket list

  • Start a skillshare course
  • plant some flowers
  • wash the windows
  • Have an alcoholic drink over the bank holiday! YEs really an alcoholic one.
  • kill some bloomin flies that keep entering my house!
  • create my first surface pattern design
  • finish the current book I am reading

What does your May look like?

15 facts about me

15 facts about me

Sometimes when you aren’t feeling up to writing a huge post or don’t have the time it’s nice to have a few posts to fall back on. I have been slightly slack with my blog lately so I have had to dig out one of those posts. This week I plan on catching up and being more present with my blogging. I have updated my editorial calendar over the weekend to help me get excited about blogging.

Todays post will give you a little more insight into who I am with 15 fun and random facts about me. Not surprisingly many of them involve food!

I got my first tattoo on my 18th birthday. A butterfly on my shoulder – so cliché I know! I no longer like that tattoo.

Talking of tattoos, I have 2 others a set of goth wings on my back which after ten years I still adore. Also I have the start of a rose vine on my thigh, I started it for my 20th birthday and then a few days later found out I was pregnant. That was 8 years ago and I still don’t have it finished.

My husband thinks I am completely weird but I love country music. I would rather listen to Chris young, Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Rodgers and Tim McGraw over any other music genre.

My favourite movie of ALL time is Dirty Dancing.

I cannot stand mushrooms. They are just gross, the texture is just nasty and they ruin any meal in my opinion. So I went and married a mushroom lover!!

My favourite meal is Steak. It was a toss up between steak and pizza, but ultimately steak would win. 9 times out of 10 no of the ladies want to sit next to me at a restaurant because I love my steak rare. Chips dipped in steak juice is juice the best. Now I really want a steak!

I always fall down the stairs. Usually only a the last five or so, and on the odd occasion I have slid down the whole set. For some reason me and stairs don’t mix, I always slip on them. It is usually the ones at my parents house.

I love to sing. Alone most of the time, although my dad used to give me a tenner to sing karaoke at the pub when I was younger.

I love cake! Chocolate cake, coffee cake, fruit cake. If it’s cake I will most likely eat it with the exception of supermarket novelty birthday cakes. They are just yuk!

My favourite holiday is Christmas!

My favourite animals are Gorillas and lions. I tried but couldn’t choose between the two. I am a leo and that has always drawn me to the lion but Gorillas are so beautiful and interesting I could watch them for hours. Although when I was younger Dolphins would probably be in this list too.

My pic n mix would consist of fizzy bubblegum bottles, white mice, giant snakes, toffee bonbons and chocolate raisins.

My celebrity crush is Jared Padalecki.Yum! David Boreanaz, Charlie Hunnam and Joe Manganiello are also close on this list.

My favourite colour is purple. My wedding theme was purple, my kitchen was purple. Everything should be made in purple.

I hated reading books until I bought my first kindle five years ago, now reading is my favourite thing to do.

October 2016 Bucket List

october 2016 monthly bucket list

October already. I’m sure I say it every month and in every post but seriously how did we get to October so quickly. I’m half tempted to write a template that goes along the lines of being shocked that we have reached a new month or a new year that I can copy and paste into each post.

September sucked for getting my bucket list done. In fact I have come to the conclusion that I suck at completing tasks. I’m great at making the bucket lists/to do list but suck at actually completing them.

Non the less I will continue to write a bucket list in the hope that I might actually get one finished one month.

So how did we get on with last months bucket list?

September 2016 bucket list round up

  • Continue scheduling posts, and tweets. I would like to grow my blog a little more each month. Actually I have done pretty okay with scheduling tweets. I even managed to reach 1000 twitter followers and get 100 likes on facebook which I was super excited about. I have fallen being with scheduling post however. I started back to work and getting back into the daily routine with the school runs it has pushed my post scheduling out of the window.
  • Get the turf laid in the garden – it’s a long shot but it may happen. I knew it was a long shot but it was worth a try. It didn’t happen and will probably now have to wait until the spring.
  • Write a short story. It has been a while since I have written one, maybe this month it will happen. I didn’t get a short story written however, I did manage to open up my story folder and did start to write some more on a previous story I started a year ago.
  • Practise on my sewing machine. I bought one at the beginning f the summer and have yet to use it properly. My sewing machine is still sat in his box and has only been removed once. With Christmas coming up I really want to make a few Christmas decorations with it.
  • Bake BG2 a birthday cake. Didn’t happen, I had work the weekend before her birthday which was on a Monday and also work that evening too.

Whats on the bucket list for October.

  • Reach 200 instagram followers, I am currently at 130.
  • Reach 1500 Twitter followers – here’s to hoping.
  • Continue to schedule tweets.
  • Write a chapter to the novel I started writing again.
  • Make a Christmas decoration on my sewing machine
  • Book the panto for christmas

The Disney tag

disney tag

The Disney Tag

I love these posts. I have come across a few of these Disney tag’s and really wanted to do one myself. I have seen a few variations so took the questions I liked most and put them together.

  1. What’s your favourite Disney movie?

My all time favourite has to be Beauty and the Beast. I love the songs and the unusual characters.

  2. What’s your favourite Disney character?

I love love love Tinkerbell! She is my all time favourite. While writing this post I had a mental block and had to ask the Hubby who my favourite Disney character. He gave me a strange look and said “Tinkerbell obviously”. Oh yeh!

  3. What was the first Disney movie you remember seeing ?

The first that I can actually remember seeing was Aladdin, I was four when the movie came out. But I am sure that this wasn’t the first movie I had ever watched by Disney as my mum also loves Disney.

  4. What type of Disney item do you collect the most?

I love to collect all things Disney, I have many movies not quite all of them. When I was younger early teens I would collect Disney bowls and cups. I still have some left that haven’t gotten broken. My eldest cup being around twelve years old and my bowls even older. I also love Disney Christmas tree decorations and still add to my collection each year, many have gotten broken over the years though, there are many with missing noses or hands. My most recent Disney collection is figurines, I have been collecting for a while, mainly Tinkerbell ornaments. However recently I have started collecting them again.

  5. What’s your favourite Disney song?

Tale as old as time would probably be my all time favourite, although it is hard to choose just one when there are so many good ones.

6. What’s your favourite Disney scene?

I had to take some time answering this question. It was probably the most difficult, running through each movie in my head to pick out my favourite. Ultimately I kept coming back to the same seen over and over again. So my favourite scene is Dodger (Oliver and Company) Singing on top of a yellow cab in New York.

7. Have you been to Disney land?

I first went to Disney land Paris when I was 18 with a friend. I absolutely loved it, and returned  when I was 21 with my sister and Hubby. We have yet to take the kids but are saving towards taking them. I would love to be able to go Disney World this time.

8. What is your most emotional Disney moment?

I cry every time when Mufasa dies.

9. If you could pick any Disney character to be your friend who would you choose?

Olaf would be my friend. Who wouldn’t want a snowman for a friend.

10. Who is your favourite Disney princess?

There are  many beautiful princesses to choose from, I love them all. They are all unique and have their own fabulous personality. If I had to choose just one it would be Belle. She is beautiful and kind and loves to read.

11. Who is your favourite Disney sidekick?

Again so many to choose from, but I would have to ay Mator is my favourite sidekick.

12. Who would be your Disney pet?

Raja would be my favourite Disney pet. Who wouldn’t love a Tiger for a pet? Do Tigers eat children? That could be awkward!

13. Who is your favourite Disney Villain?

It really wouldn’t be Disney without a good villain! My favourite I would have to say Scar, with his sarcasm and evil ways.

14.Which Disney film would you most like to star in?

Mary Poppins because I would really like Julie Andrews to be my Nanny.

15.How old were you when you watched your first Disney movie?

This is really tough – I remember watching Aladdin, and that came out when I was four, but I know that I must have watched Disney movies earlier than this because my mum has always been a Disney fan too.

16. What do you love most about Disney?

For me, the thing I love most about Disney is the songs. It really wouldn’t be a Disney movie without some catchy number. It is a must in our house to have a regular Disney karaoke family night with the kids. Not sure the neighbours enjoy it as much as we do though!

17. Who is your favourite Disney couple?

Rapunzel & Eugene!

18.Flounder, Sebastian or Scuttle?

Sebastian – who in there right mind doesn’t love a singing crab!

19.Your favourite Disney Princess dress?

There are so many pretty dresses. It makes the decision to choose one very difficult. If I were asked this as a child or even a teenager it would be a definite Belle. But then came along Frozen, bringing with it the magic of snowflakes and Elsa’s dress. It is spectacular and I love it.

20. What’s the best Disney kiss?

So many Disney kisses, where does anybody start. There are obviously all the happy ever after kisses between prince and princess however there are so many more besides these. My favourite has to be the kiss between Snow White and Dopey. When Dopey keeps getting in the queue for another kiss and she uses his ears to kiss him on the head. Makes me giggle every time. Not all kisses have to be romantic.

21. If you could live in any world from a Disney movie?

This is easy for me – I love fairies and would so wish to live along side Tinkerbell and her friends in PixieHollow.

22. If you could have a party themed around a Disney movie what would it be?

I am always looking on pinterest. Aren’t we all? I love the Alice in wonderland themed parties, especially the weddings. Having lots of teacups and jars as decorations. And dressing up in hats. It would be a great party.

23. What Disney movie do you turn to when your sad?

If I’m sad I need cheering up. I would turn to movies such as Tangled, Oliver and Company and Tarzan so I could have a good sing along to cheer me up.

24. Who is your favourite Prince?

Prince Phillip is my favourite Prince. He can sing, dance and slay dragons.

25. Which Princess would you most like to trade places with?

Whether you want to talk to animals like Cinderella, swing from your own hair or live with a bunch of Dwarves. We have all dreamt about trading places with a Disney Princess. If I had a chance I would trade places with Ariel, I would love to be able to swim with dolphins and the fish.

26. Favourite Pixar movie?

I DON’T KNOW! Do I choose cars, or maybe monsters inc, or finding Nemo, no Inside out but then there’s Toy story?

27. Favourite Disney quote?

“All you need is faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust” Peter Pan

28.Is there a Disney movie you haven’t seen?

There are a few that I haven’t seen including Underdog, Atlantis & Treasure planet.

29. Disney song that always get’s stuck in your head?

I wrote a whole post on songs that get stuck in my head here .

30. Least favourite Disney movie?

I can pretty much sit down and watch most Disney movies without a problem. I don’t think there is any in particular that I don’t like.

If you enjoyed reading my Disney tag why not join in too! Grab the questions and get writing link/tweet me your post so I can take a read.

It’s nearly time – back to school

school

The Summer holidays are nearly over. The days of having that extra hour in bed and no rushing around to be out the door by 8:30am are coming to an end. It’s that time of the holidays where we – as parents – get our checklists out, making sure we have the full school uniform ready for the New Year. Before we know it the everyday hustle and bustle of the dreaded school run will be upon us. The school bells will be ringing and our days will no longer be filled with entertaining all the children and finding activities for everyone to join in through the day.

Before the summer holidays started you had that morning routine working for you at last, then the holidays happened and it all went out the window.

On a good school morning we were out of bed by 7:10am. We were dressed and fed by 8am and out of the door by 8:30am. Since the holiday began we are lucky to be out of bed by 9:30am, lucky if we even get dressed for the day and if we left the house before 11:30am it was a miracle.

The trick to getting back into the swing of things again is to start the routine early. In this next week running up to the start of school the kids will be going to bed early and getting up early too in an attempt to get dressed before 8:30am and head out for an early morning walk. All in an effort to prepare the kids mentally and physically for the dreaded school run.

BG1 will be heading into year three into the junior wing of the school. It doesn’t deem five minutes ago she was just starting out at Nursery. This shy little girl that barely spoke to anybody.

LM will be starting reception this year, he is more than ready for it. I will miss not having my shopping buddy 2 and half days a week though.

It’s now just me and the baby left at home. It may take some getting used to.

This week I will also be preparing all kids uniform. I mad a giant order from George with almost everything I needed. I just now need a few little bits left.

Below I have prepared my checklist so I don’t forget anything.

back to school

Are your kids heading back to school soon? Are they excited? Are you organised and prepared for their return? Are you loosing a shopping buddy? Don’t forget to leave me a comment below with your back to school prep ideas.

I just can’t get you out of my head – Top 10 Disney songs that get stuck in your head!

disney happygomummy

I am super excited about this post. It has been on my to do list since I started this blog, along with many more just like it. I am a huge Disney fan, I always have been. As I have gotten older my love for Disney has grown and evolved over the years. I know can appreciate the more adult humour and the meaning behind the stories, although let’s face it we all just want to be a beautiful princess in one of those dresses. One of the things that make Disney movies so special is the huge array of catchy songs throughout the movies. More often than not I will end up singing a Disney song by the end of the day (if I didn’t already wake up singing one!) Today I have put together a list of my top 10 of my favourite, catchy Disney songs that get stuck in my head, often. Continue reading

Keeping kids cool during the summer!

summer cool

The hot weather has arrived, and hopefully here to stay for a while. It is so important to help babies and children to stay cool during the summer holidays.

Babies under six months can’t regulate their body temperature like older children and adults can. It’s our jobs as parents to help keep them cool and not get over heated. Older kids can often get irritated and restless during the hot weather. Keeping them cool can lessen the chances of a heat induced tantrum. Continue reading

Meal planning 2

PASTAS

meal planning 2

So last week was my first meal planning that I had done in a while. it was in most part a success, my shopping was more organised. I was able to check the freezer and cupboards so I wasn’t over stocking and using up unused rubbish in the bottom drawer.

We did have a slight change up during the week, we were going to have a chicken and pasta on Wednesday however, I made a grill up for lunch and BG2 has a cooked lunch at school so had left over sausage sandwiches instead. We also didn’t have a grill up on Saturday, LM wasn’t feeling great and to be honest neither was I so we chose a Chinese takeaway instead. Probably not the healthiest of choices or very friendly on my purse but I enjoyed it. I haven’t had a Chinese takeaway in a long time and I was not disappointed.

Moving on to this weeks meal plan

Tuesday

Burgers and salad – Last week I forgot to get out burgers to go in the buns so ended up with Mediterranean pork chops. This week I will remember to take the burgers out. As usual the kids will be at nanny’s for tea.

Wednesday

Chilli – I fancy a chilli this week. I haven’t made one in a while and half a fair bit of mince left in the freezer. There will also be enough left over for me and hubby to have a second lot on Thursday.

Thursday

Jacket potatoes – A great way for using up the left over chilli. The kids don’t like chilli so they will have cheese and beans on theirs.

Friday

Pizza night – We love pizza in our house. Last week we ended up buying pizza instead. This week is he opening of a new local park and they have entertainment and pizza there so we will be there after school for that.

Saturday

??? – Ever get that feeling when you are sure you are supposed to be somewhere or doing something. I have that feeling about this Saturday. So don’t want to make plans just in case. However if there isn’t anything on there are some ribs in the freezer with Saturdays name on it.

Sunday

Roast chicken or bacon mash – Depending on what the weekend holds and how much time I have left to make a roast dinner. If there isn’t much time bacon mash goes down as a second favourite for a Sunday.
